Nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs are used for the detection of respiratory viruses such as RSV, covid-19 (Coronavirus), influenza virus A & B or parainfluenza virus. A properly collected viral swab (saliva or oral-fluid specimens) is necessary for detection of these organisms.
